Multi-Household Contracts: How Payment Responsibility Works

Written by Brian

If your child has two households responsible for tuition, your school will set up the contract using one of three configurations. Here's what to expect with each.

1. Single Contract (No Split)

Both guardians are on one contract and manage it together, just like a single-household family would.

  • Both guardians receive the contract email.

  • Whichever guardian claims the contract first makes the decisions (payment plan, additional fees, etc).

  • Either guardian can pay the deposit or any invoice.

  • Both guardians can set up autopay.

2. Single Contract, Split Tuition

Both guardians are on one contract, but your school sets a percentage split for how tuition is divided.

  • Both guardians receive the contract email.

  • Whichever guardian claims the contract first makes the education-related decisions.

  • Either guardian can pay the deposit; whoever pays it gets the deposit credited to their portion.

  • Each guardian manages and pays their own portion of the invoice going forward.

  • Your school can adjust the split percentage at any time if needed.

  • Autopay is not currently available for this contract type. Payments need to be made each time manually.

3. Split Contracts

Each household has its own separate contract.

  • Each household only sees and manages its own contract and invoices.

  • You will not see payment activity, balances, or contract details for the other household.

  • Fees like late fees or failed-payment fees are applied to whichever household's payment caused them.

Can I make a partial payment?

Yes. On any of the three configurations above, you can edit the payment amount to submit a partial payment toward what you owe.

Where can I see my total paid, owed, and outstanding balance?

Your account includes a summary view showing what's been billed, paid, and is still outstanding for the year. If you're on a split contract, this summary only reflects your own household's portion.

My split percentage looks wrong, or I think my responsibility has changed.

Reach out to your school directly; they control the split configuration and can update it on their end
