How can I tell what business type I have?

LLC- Most LLC’s use a 1120S (S-Corporation) however there are times a LLC will file a schedule C. You would want to reference your return to see if you filed a schedule c for your LLC. If you did not file a schedule c, you will see a schedule e page 2 where you indicate you have an “S” Corporation which would indicate you filed a 1120S and receive a K-1.

Sole Proprietorship- you would have either filed a schedule c or schedule f

Partnership- you would have a schedule e page 2 with an indication of a “P” for partnership which would require for you to file a 1065 and K-1.

S Corporation- you would have a schedule e page 2 with an indication of a “S” for s-corporation which would require for you to file a 1120-s and K-1.

C Corporation- this business will not flow up to your 1040 like the above. You will have filed a 1120 for this corporation.
